 Dr.
Ayesha Al-Rifai : RWTC/ESF Dean Since its establishment in 1962, RWTC has been looked at as the pioneering UNRWA institute that provides Palestinian refugee women with high quality vocational and technical education as well as teacher training and free boarding. These areas of concern are essential for developing the Palestinian community and promoting economic growth. The main objective of the centre is training refugees in marketable professions; professions that will enable them to start their own business, or become competent, efficient and committed employees. To achieve this goal, trainees are provided with the necessary knowledge and skills. Utmost attention is given to develop leadership and instill positive values to orient them to become good citizens, and effective participants in the development of a viable Palestinian community. Initially, the Centre offered four specializations in the Vocational and Technical programme; Hairdressing, Sewing, Nutrition and Home Management and Office Management. In 1964, a two year Teacher Training programme was introduced. Due to social, cultural and religious factors, recruiting trainees was the most difficult task. RWTC personnel had to convince the parents to enroll their daughters in the above mentioned programmes. Vigorous and gook quality education and training made it possible for graduates to secure descent jobs. Their superior performance not only helped polish the Center's reputation, but resulted in a steady increase in the number of applicants, achieving an admission rate of one out of four applicants. The increase in number of applicants together with the high rate of employment (85-100%) was naturally accompanied by the gradual introduction of more market-oriented specializations. All RWTC trainees are provided with extra-curricular activities whose major purpose is to develop their personalities to become independent, value oriented, responsible citizens who are aware and committed to help in developing the Palestinian society.
Nomination of the College In 1962 the college was called Ramallah women’s Training center. From 1980-1993 it was called Ramallah Women's Community College. Since 1993 it has been known as Educational science Faculty and Ramallah Women's Training Centre.
